Four ways to “fall” into better habits

Have you ever thought of fall as a season of second chances?  It is both typical and cliche that we make our New Year’s resolutions in January only to have those new habits fall by the wayside after a short time. It then takes some time to regroup to start again, and fall is a great time of year to do just that.

Fall: a great time to get excited about the second half of the year and all of the things you resolved to do but haven’t had the time.

At the beginning of this year (2017) I was near the end of my second trimester of pregnancy with Moses and I made several resolutions that I even shared my goals in a vlog which you can watch here. One of them was to join the gym in the fall. I just knew that having two little boys would necessitate that I separate some regular time for myself with no interruptions. And by the fall, the baby and I would be ready to be separate for a little bit. I’m happy to report that I have started that resolution, and it really does feel so invigorating!

If you are thinking about giving your resolutions a second chance, I highly recommend it. If not, try making some new ones. Here are four ideas:

  1. Meal planning. Now that kids are back in school, vacations are over, and life is back on a schedule meal planning can help you cook healthy nutritious food at home for the whole family. It’s not just for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. 🙂
  2. Fall cleaning. Decluttering, pulling out cool-weather clothing, redecorating, will help you feel fresh, calm, and renewed.
  3. Practice thankfulness. This coming November, journal and/or share one thing you are thankful for every day for that month. It will make you realize what an abundant life you have.
  4. Get more Zs. Take advantage of the longer nights to get more and better quality sleep. Utilizing the first three tips can help you relax better for sleep.
